Tokarev TT-33 Grips Guide: Walnut vs Acrylic & How to Fit Them

Tokarev TT-33 walnut grips with grip screw

The Tokarev TT-33 is one of the toughest pistols of the 20th century. Designed by Fedor Tokarev and adopted by the Soviet army in the early 1930s, it was produced in huge numbers and copied by factories across Eastern Europe and Asia. Today many TT-33s change hands as surplus or collector pistols – and almost all of them still wear tired, cracked or plain plastic grips.

A new set of grips is the simplest way to give a Tokarev a fresh look and a better hold. In this guide we explain what to look for in Tokarev grips, how walnut and acrylic compare, and how to check the fit before you order.

Why replace your Tokarev grips?

  • Worn originals: Factory Tokarev grips are often cracked, chipped or loose after decades of service.
  • Better hold: The TT-33 has a slim, flat grip. Well-shaped replacement panels give your hand more to hold on to.
  • Looks: Many surplus pistols came with plain black or brown plastic. Walnut or polished acrylic makes the pistol look finished and cared for.

Walnut vs acrylic Tokarev grips

Walnut Acrylic
Look Warm, classic, natural grain Glossy and modern
Feel Natural, slightly textured Smooth and polished
Best for Restorations and period-correct builds Collectors who want a distinctive pistol
Uniqueness Every set has its own grain Consistent finish

Both of our sets are CNC machined for a precise fit and finished by hand: Tokarev TT-33 walnut grips and Tokarev TT-33 acrylic grips.

Grip screw included

Unlike most of our grips, the Tokarev sets are supplied with a grip screw, so you can install them even if the original screw is missing or damaged.

Will they fit my Tokarev?

Our grips are made for the TT-33 pattern. Tokarev clones from different countries and factories are not always identical in the grip area, so if your pistol is a licensed or foreign-made variant, send us a photo of the grip area on WhatsApp before ordering and we will confirm the fit.

How to install Tokarev grips

  1. Make sure the pistol is unloaded and the magazine is removed.
  2. Remove the old grip panels.
  3. Fit the new panels and check that they sit flush against the frame.
  4. Install the grip screw and tighten until snug – do not over-tighten.
